    Outdoor Life X Kilimanjaro at Sogndal Folkehøgskule is for those who thrive on adventure and an active outdoor lifestyle. Here, you’ll explore breathtaking nature, learn new skills, and create unforgettable memories with others. Sleeping under the stars, cooking over an open fire, and waking up to new outdoor experiences.

    When winter arrives, we set our sights on snow-covered peaks and downhill skiing. We test our skills on skis and learn how to handle winter conditions in a safe and fun way.

    In spring, we embark on a shared expedition – a highlight for everyone. Outdoor Life X is perfect for those who love nature, enjoy pushing their limits, and want to be part of an active community!

    Join an unforgettable study trip to Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa! This expedition offers you the chance to experience the majestic nature and unique culture of Tanzania, while challenging yourself on one of the world’s most iconic summit hikes. Over several days, we will climb the mountain via the scenic Machame route, where you’ll navigate through lush rainforest, open plains, and alpine zones.

    We continue our adventure with a safari in Serengeti National Park, where we’ll witness Africa’s magnificent wildlife. We’ll learn about ecology, conservation, and the importance of respecting nature. This part of the trip connects us deeply to our global responsibility to protect the environment and its wildlife. The journey concludes on the beautiful island of Zanzibar, where we’ll participate in projects supporting the local community, providing a meaningful and educational end to the adventure.

    This is not just a physical challenge but also an opportunity to experience fellowship and personal growth in spectacular surroundings. Get ready for the adventure!

    Hemsedal

    During the 3rd week of the spring semester, we travel to the ski resort of Hemsedal. We stay in chalets at the base of the lift area, perfect for "Ski-in - ski-out" For 3 full days we develop our skiing technique and learn new tricks. The students are divided into small groups and can choose between Telemark (free-heel skis) and downhill or ski-touring skiing. We hire a few instructors in addition to our own staff so you get plenty of instruction. There are two instruction periods during the day, and the rest of the time you are free to ski with your fellow students. 

    Evenings are spent together in the lounges at the chalets after an evening meal. 

    Cruise on the Sognefjord

    Towards the end of the school year, we depart for a two-day cruise on the Sognefjord. We have a whole vessel to ourselves, and we sail into Aurlandsjord and Nærøyfjord -where we camp overnight in the scenic fjord-hamlet of Dyrdal -a tiny, roadless community which offers plenty of opportunities -and space - for activities and mountain hikes for those who wish. We live onboard the vessel, in the local empty village school, -or, for those who prefer, camp in tents or under the sky. We barbecue our own food and enjoy a social evening aroung a camp fire. On day two, we disembark and hike along the enchanting postal trail to Styvi, where we have lunch, and for those who wish, a refreshing dip in the fjord!

    Between towering mountains and the deep Sognefjord, everything is set for a year filled with experiences, personal growth, and lifelong friendships. At our school, learning goes beyond the classroom—it becomes a home. And this home is filled with people, just like you, who are ready to create unforgettable memories.

    Here, the classroom isn’t confined by four walls—it extends to the entire landscape around us! From steep mountain peaks to deep fjords, the opportunities are endless. You’ll learn by experiencing, exploring, and actively participating in everything we do together.

    Throughout the year, you’ll enjoy warm evenings by the fjord and crisp winter days surrounded by powder snow. You’ll feel the contrasts, the freedom, and the pure joy of being present in the moment. No matter which program you choose, we offer a daily life where you can embrace everything Sogndal has to offer—both in nature and together with your fellow students.
